How a diamond is grown

A lab-grown diamond begins as a thin plate of diamond called a seed. The seed sits in a chamber filled with carbon-rich gas, and under heat and low pressure the carbon settles onto it one layer at a time. Over three to four weeks the seed becomes a rough crystal several carats in size.

The result is carbon arranged in the same cubic lattice as a mined stone. There is no chemical, optical or physical test that separates the two, which is why every Iveraco diamond ships with an IGI certificate that grades it on exactly the same scale.

What the process changes

Growing a diamond removes the mine. It does not remove the cutting, the polishing or the setting, all of which still happen by hand in Surat. What you receive is the same stone, arrived at differently.
